    Our office follows USDA recommendations for canning, freezing, and drying. Contact our office for questions and to obtain information about upcoming food preservation classes.

  • Farmers' Market Nutrition Education
    Our Farmers' Market Nutrition Program operates through collaboration between the NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), the Office for the Aging (SOFA), and Cornell University Cooperative Extension (Cornell). Our participation at Schoharie County farmers' markets is aimed at:

  • * Promoting the use of farmers' markets;
    * Enhancing the health county residents by encouraging more fresh fruits and vegetables, and with nutrition education;
    * Supporting NY farmers who "direct market" their fresh produce through farmers' markets;
    * Promoting farmers' markets as a component of a sustainable, quality community.

  • Program Support
    The Family and Consumer Sciences Department is supported by Cornell University, based in the Division of Nutritional Sciences in both the College of Human Ecology and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The ESNY! Nutrition Education Program is funded through grants from USDA, as administered by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education (SNAP-ED), and thru Cornell University for the state extension system known as the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP).
